Letterenhuis

The memory of Flemish literature is safeguarded here through an extensive archive including original manuscripts of Antwerp authors Hendrik Conscience, Willem Elsschot and Paul van Ostaijen. In 2021, the Letterenhuis celebrates the 100th anniversary of the latter’s collection of poems “Occupied City”. In this work, written in Berlin during the roaring twenties, Van Ostaijen describes life with his friends in his hometown of Antwerp at the time of the First World War.
